Undercover Surveillance TechniquesBy Alexis Svenn I am no stranger to surveillance, indeed for many years, during my time in the Services I was schooled in the highest levels of covert surveillance techniques known to man. As we were schooled in traditionally military disciplines we spent the initial part of the surveillance training in different habitats, learning about tracking over deserts or snowfields, how to mask your progress through a jungle or to hide your trail through grassland. It is important in each of these differing scenarios to make the best use of the environment you can and to be aware of different situations which may arise due to geographic situations (such as being given away by birds in the jungle) This strenuous part over we were passed on to the more modern training methods. As modern, and I mean 21st century, warfare is now being fought in an urban environment there were new tricks of the trade to learn. Recent global terrorism has made it imperative for the operative to be able to tail, follow and document the movements of suspects in an urban environment. Much use is made of high technology gadgetry in these areas. It is possible to track suspects' cars via GPS or to remotely monitor their conversations via high power and directional microphones. Apart from that it is important not to give oneself away, so a 'mark' must be loosely followed. You must not breathe down their neck, or follow them pace by pace. In many instances we use two or more people to follow someone in a town. One can walk past and disappear while the other moves into the field of vision. Nowadays I put these practices into action as I work in the field of undercover surveillance, often on corporate or matrimonial investigations. The most important aspect of the job is being discreet and thorough. Many of my employers don't want to uncover a wrongdoing, they just need peace of mind that their partner is not cheating or their staff member is not passing on information to a competitor. At least I don't fear a bullet these days. Alexis Svenn is interested in many things he finds online and was involved with Private Surveillance for many years. keywords: undercover surveillance
